These plants were selected for their ability to inhibit Tyrosinase, the enzyme, which is responsible for the production of melanin (skin pigment).
Bearberry Extract – Derived from the Uva Ursi plant. There are three species of Bearberry, only the Uva Ursi species produces Arbutin, a natural form of Hydroquinone which inactivates melanin.(Synthetic Hydroquinone is a controversial skin bleaching agent commonly used in traditional skin whitening formulations) Bearberry is stable, does not become pro-oxidant when exposed to sunlight. It’s super antioxidant content protects against free radical damage and UV rays, and has anti-ageing properties. Bearberry also contains allantoin which has long been used in herbal medicine for skin soothing properties.
Coffee Extract – Powerful antioxidant protection against UVA and UVB rays. Anti-ageing, PH balancing, reduces pigmentation.
Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) – Topical application of niacinamide has been shown to suppress melanin, increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin, prevent skin from losing water content, decrease hyperpigmentation and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis.
